The series follows Sebastian Michaelis, a demonic butler who is obligated to serve Ciel Phantomhive, the twelve-year-old head of the Phantomhive noble family, due to a contract he made with Ciel.

Sebastian Michaelis

Butler of the Phantomhive household and Ciel’s bodyguard, two jobs he is completely devoted to. He often describes himself with the phrase, “Because I’m a butler through and through” (あくまで執事ですから, Aku made shitsuji desu kara), which, in Japanese, is a pun. ‘Through and through’ (あくまで, Aku made) can interpreted as “demon and” (あくまで, Akuma de), thus his phrase becomes “Because I’m a demon and a butler” (あくまで執事ですから, Akuma de shitsuji desu kara), something Sebastian is well aware of.

He is highly skilled in any area and handles any task, as well as any problem that arises from the errors of the other staff, with ease. This is due to the fact he is a demon bound by a “contract” to abide by Ciel’s will.

Ciel Phantomhive
The business-savvy, twelve-year-old head of the English Phantomhive noble family, taking over after the deaths of his parents.

He also runs a company that manufactures toys and sweets. His right eye, which is usually covered with a black eyepatch, bears a pentacle sign of contract which binds the demon Sebastian Michaelis to his will.

Some of the past revealed:
His parents died in a fire and in the brink of life and death (i think… ^^;;), he make a contract with Sebastian.

[edit] In recent chapters, it’s revealed that his parents were murdered and Ciel was sold to some occult believers to be sacrificed (which i think it’s actually a kind of ceremony to summon demon? ^^;;) and from here Ciel make contract with the demon which is known as Sebastian the butler now (Sebastian was the name of Ciel’s dog).

There’s some more funny characters like their cook, maid, gardener and house steward (though he only go ho ho ho and drinking tea all the time… ^^;;)
